The Mercury: Medi-cards get smart [28jun04]
ABOUT 75,000 Tasmanians can apply for the new Medicare smartcard to be introduced in mid-July.
The card, which is voluntary, is being launched in Tasmania ahead of other states and will provide potentially life-saving information.
Health Insurance Commission state manager Peter Sexton said the smartcard would allow individuals and health care providers access to health records.
